stripes & leather

I actually wore this outfit on Christmas day, but the pictures were taken on my mom's sweet Canon DSLR so I didn't have access to them until now. I have gone through several very nice Sony cameras throughout my teens and adult life, and unfortunately, many of them had short lives due to my carelessness. I'd like to think I've grown up a lot since college - for example, when I bought myself the iPhone 4 I made sure to buy the biggest and bad-assesed Otterbox case to make sure that IF I dropped the phone it would be spared. Surprisingly, I have not ONCE dropped this phone since I've had it, and we're past the 1.5 year mark. Anyway, I've been interested in getting a better camera for many months now, and expressed that to my mom. She's still in doubt of my taking-care-of-things ability, so instead of getting me a camera for Xmas, my parents gave me money to go towards a camera (or anything of my choosing). It was a smart move on their part, because now I really have to think if this is the time for me to get a camera, or if I should put the money toward something else. I'm hoping I end up going with the camera, but the practical side of me is thinking *payment toward a new car? payment toward the electric bill?* lol.
Jacket: Asos
Sweater: J. Crew (similar for $80, similar for $75, and similar for only $13.50!)
Tank: Forever 21
Jeans: Abercrombie & Fitch
Shoes: Tahari Gibson via TJ Maxx (similar)
Necklaces: David Yurman, Tiffany

I've been getting SO much wear out of this jacket and am so happy with my purchase. Not only is it actually WARM (I thought it wouldn't be warm because it was thin, but in fact, because it is leather it is impenetrable from the wind except for the zippers) but it also goes with EVERYTHING. On Xmas day, I wore a new J Crew Factory sweater that I got for a mere $20 and paired it with new navy and black snake print cap-toe ballet flats from TJ Maxx. Without the jacket on I got a very preppy vibe, especially with my Tiffany beads necklace acting almost as a set of pearls, but once the jacket is on it takes the outfit on a different turn, adding some edge to an otherwise preppy/girly outfit.
Finally, a fantastic shot of Wednesday on my balcony in Miami. I cannot love a dog more.
Thanks for reading :)

Amrita Singh site-wide 50% off sale!

Amrita Singh is having a site-wide 50% off sale with code HOLIDAY11. The sale ends Friday 12/30. This seems to be an annual sale because I remember a 50% off sale during the holidays last year as well. Her site has a TON of items and sorting through everything can be daunting, but I've found the best deals in the sale section. Here are my picks:

Montauk Earring

I actually own these and purchased them in light pink from a Hautelook sale about a year ago. Please note these have CLIPS! I will attest that the clips are not uncomfortable and hold tight so there is no fear that these will fall off. For only $10 after sale these would add a great pop of color to any outfit.

Darla Bangle

This bangle bracelet also goes for $10 after the sale. It comes in black and brown wood with gold accents.

Sunset Earring

I've seen these on many bloggers and they are beautiful! Only $20 after the discount (sold on Hautelook for $28 so this is a great deal!). I think I've been stalking Amrita Singh jewelry for so long the prices have really stuck with me - usually Hautelook has the best deals, but as you can see, when the site-wide sale occurs, the site actually has some of the best deals around.
See the Sunset Earrings on Kileen from Cute and Little.

West Hampton Necklace & Montauk Necklace

The entire Hamptons collection is really divine. I would literally buy every piece if I could! A ton of bloggers own either the West Hampton Necklace or the Montauk Necklace (very similar - almost to the point of not being able to tell the difference except for slightly smaller discs on the Montauk necklace). I personally own the Montauk in powder pink and it is beautiful. See the powder pink in real life here. See Jean from Extra Petite wearing the Turquoise here. The necklace is $30 after sale, I believe I got mine on Hautelook for $32.

Don't forget - If you spend $75 you get free shipping! I don't want to spend that much but I currently have over $100 in my cart! OOPS!

purple, green, brown

I decided to cave and wear some of my christmas "gifts" already (the quotations are necessary because I picked out everything myself, lol, literally nothing was a surprise but that's OK with me!). I decided to pair a new sweater with a new scarf. I love the color combination of purple and green, and the belt added an extra bit of saturation while also holding the scarf in place. Most of my winter jackets are housed in CT while I live in Miami purely because of the lack of necessity in the warm climate. I used to love this camel coat but now I realize there are many things that could be better about its fit and functionality. I believe the coat is a Gap 0. While the sleeves hit me where I like them to hit, the overall fit is very boxy, with no definition at the waist. The pockets are hard to put my hands into because of the flaps, and because of the positioning on the front of the jacket it is an awkward place for me to hold my hands. Furthermore, the jacket lacks buttons and the clasps (what do you call those things??) come undone when I sit down. What I'm trying to say is: I think I'm in the market for a new camel coat!

Boy, has my hair gotten long! Technically it's waist level, isnt it? I'm due for a haircut, but before I do I need to curl my hair at least a few times. The whole point of me growing long hair was to have more hair to do different "do"s with, and my favorite look is loose waves/curls.. maybe new years? Definitely new years.

Happy Holidays

To those celebrating, Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah! In my family we have a huge party for christmas eve involving my extended family, and on christmas day we have a smaller event. Xmas eve is one of my favorite days of the year and I love seeing my whole family and catching up with them. I put a lot of pressure on my BF to come meet them this year, and he pulled through at the last minute and bought a train ticket to visit me. I am SOOO appreciative of him and the nice things he does for me :)

I decided to wear my grandmother's jacket to the party. Seeing pictures now, it is definitely not the best choice for petites - it actually makes me look pretty stumpy, lol. But, I think it adds some glamour for a special night. Even though fur is "in" now I'd feel pretty ridiculous walking around on a normal day with this coat.

black white & grey 2 ways

The past 2 days have been filled with preparing for the holidays. Last night I went out with my mom to grab some last minute gifts, including a CUTE AS PIE pink coat for Wednesday (my dog). Today I picked up my grandmother and went outlet shopping. They had some really great deals at the J. Crew Factory and Gap Factory. I also got a formal dress for a black tie wedding I have to go to in January at BCBG (really happy about that one!). J. Crew had a ton of new clearance items with an extra 40% off clearance. Gap was very hit-or-miss but I found several sweaters that were on sale for $15. BCBG for some reason had a TON of floor-length gowns out (I usually only see short dresses there), and many were  approximately $150. Short dresses were less.

atlantic city weekend

I had a great weekend with my BFFs from college in Atlantic City! We stayed at the Tropicana and had some nice bonding time. Our male BFFs were also in attendance and they stayed down the hall. All in all there were about 25 people there. I drove down from CT, some people drove down from NYC, and the rest drove up from Maryland and DC. I was so happy to see everyone and I'm still on a high from it almost a day later. My daytime outfits were pretty schlumpy (but I did get major compliments on my glitter loafers!!!) but here is what I wore out to Providence nightclub.

I want to pose a question to anyone reading this that I also posed to my friends: when you wear booties, does the top of the bootie dig into your ankle bone, thus causing you to bleed/chafe? I personally put in Dr. Scholls (or the equivalent) heel inserts under my heel to lift my heel up about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch to make sure my ankle bone doesn't hit the boot. I wondered if taller people do not have this problem because of their body proportions? So, I am curious how tall are YOU and do YOU have this chafing problem with booties??

found again fashion: sequin dress

I totally and completely forgot about this dress until I found it where I keep my sweatpants and t-shirts for bed. I literally "squee-ed" with delight when I saw the sequins! I bought this dress for somebody's 13th birthday party - YES this dress is 12 years old and still fits me! I honestly wish I had a picture of me in the dress when I was 13 because it must have been swimming on me for it to fit almost-tight today.

Anyway, one of the straps is broken and it won't stay up as a strapless, but I see potential for this dress as possibly a NYE dress (or a clubbing dress for Miami, lol). I am considering somehow making this dress into a strapless dress, or finding new straps. I also think it looks better with the belt, it kind of breaks up the sequins and possibly even adds a touch of class to a totally trash-tastic dress? And honestly.. this dress is actually longer than the other NYE options that I brought home with me. Yay for modesty?

Dress: Formula X from possibly Windsor circa 2000.

long day

Today was quite eventful. My dad and I picked up my one grandmother and all of us went to see my other grandmother who stays at a convalescent home (old folks home). Afterward, I had to go to an allergy doctor, and I found out (after 13 pricks with 13 needles) that I am allergic to trees, dust, and dust mites. YIPPEE. In my opinion it was a waste of time because the trees that I'm allergic to aren't even in Florida, and I never seem to mind dust. Oh well. Here is day 2 of my inadvertent 30 for 30 (ps - I'm realizing how many Forever 21 items I packed - it's almost sickening).

found again fashion: moon boots

So, since I have nothing better to do for the next month, I decided I'm going to start a feature where I show you something that I found in my closet from my childhood bedroom that I haven't seen in years/worn in years. I'm going to stick to particularly hilarious or interesting items. It's going to be a blast from the past for me, and maybe interesting for you. At least I hope for the latter.

Today's edition: the Moon Boot. Originally designed by Tecnica in the 1970s, worn throughout the 80s,  and made particularly infamous by Napoleon Dynamite in the 2000's, the moon boot lives on today.

Which came first, Rainbow Brite or the Moon Boot?
Napoleon dancin' for Pedro's campaign
I purchased these in the winter of 2005-2006 from Victoria's Secret of all places, and I got my use out of them while attending the University of Maryland and while skiing in Vermont. But when I moved to Miami, the moon boots had to stay in CT. I hope you enjoy my outfit which to me is also reminiscent of my childhood poorly dressed and not-caring self - sweatpants. Sweatpants tucked into moon boots.
I also hope you enjoy my leopard room. And that little DIY mirror project from when I was 15.

inadvertent 30 for 30

Long story short, I only ended up packing 30 items of clothing and shoes combined to take home with me for a 32 day trip home to CT. This is the least amount I've ever packed for this long a stay before, but I guess I'll have to make due. I do expect to purchase a few things, or receive them as gifts (xmas and my bday are only 3 days apart) and I also have some random sweaters in my childhood room that still fit me, but for the most part, I'll be completing an accidental 30 for 30 this month! I look forward to seeing how I can (hopefully) creatively put together the same things several ways. I am going to post my 30 items later today :) Here are my items, and an outfit of the day. Plus, some random outerwear that I found in my closet that I CANNOT WAIT to wear!

Shoes - 5
Left to Right: Aldo boots, Wanted leopard loafers, Dollhouse glitter loafers, Madden Girl booties, Ugg brown boots (not pictured - on my feet)
Sweaters - 2
Tops - 13

Top: H&M blue cardigan, Loft black cardigan, Forever 21 pink chiffon top, Forever 21 green satin top
Bottom: Forever 21 ruched sleeve turtleneck, Forever 21 pink 3/4 sleeve top, A&F rust long sleeve top, H&M lace shoulder long sleeve top, Marshalls neon yellow tank, no name T-shirts in an array of colors - Pink, Purple, Grey, Purple, Blue. Not pictured: mauve no name t-shirt, wearing below
Bottoms - 6

Dresses - 3
Left to Right: Forever 21 stripe sweater dress, Lucca Couture long sleeve dress, LVLX dress

If you've been keeping track, thats 29 items, plus my new leather jacket makes 30. I also brought along several accessories - scarves, belts, and jewelry. In addition, I found some awesomeee outerwear in my closet that I haven't seen in ages. See below for the goodies and an Outfit of the Day wearing a few of my 30x30 items:
Leather Jacket: ASOS
Scarf: BCBG
Shirt: no name
Jeans: A&F
Shoes: Wanted
Left: Bebe satin trench coat - I found this in my closet and I'm probably going to wear this as my outerwear to a wedding I have coming up. I literally haven't worn this in 5 years!
Top Right: skinny belts in an array of colors!
Bottom Right: warm scarves - unknown, Forever 21, BCBG
Left: my grandmother's fur coat, Right: a vintage fur coat that I picked up from Goodwill for $12 in October that I've been letting "air out" so I can wear it now :) I can't wait - fur is SO IN again!

sequins & sparkles

Can you say sparkle overload?? I am finally done with exams, and I arrived at my house in CT just a few minutes ago! What a change from 85 degrees to 50 (and 50 is warm for this time of year). The pictures were taken in 85 degree heat, hence no tights. I can't wait to see how everyone else wears their sequins and sparkles for Every Body Every Wear.

ASOS leather jacket review

I got my ASOS Leather Biker Jacket today. I had high expectations of what I wanted in the garment, but I wasn't sure if they were unrealistic for ASOS (or anywhere, actually). Surprisingly, and to my delight, this jacket met several of my expectations and included some features that I hadn't considered but made the jacket more interesting visually and wearable.

The measurements for a Size 2 are as follows (measured laying flat):
Shoulder width: 14 inches
Length, shoulder to hem: 20 inches
Sleeve length: 24 inches
Armpit to Armpit: 17 inches
Bottom width: 16 inches
The Outer is 100% leather, the Lining is 100% cotton with 100% polyester lining in the sleeves.
The original price is $181 and I got it on sale for 20% off. I stupidly forgot to order it through a referral site like ebates/mrrebates/bigcrumbs so I could have saved even more money (approx 5 dollars).

The shoulders are slightly structured and lightly padded (really lightly padded). The sleeves are tapered and fitted at the wrist which I like. The sleeves run about an inch too long on me, and would probably be costly to get tailored. However, the sleeves have this great kind of wrap-around zipper (see a better picture below) which makes folding the sleeves up easy, and they actually stay put!. The sleeves could be more fitted around my biceps, but maybe I just have thin arms lol. The cropped length is good for petites. The zippers are silver-tone gunmetal. There is quilting at the shoulders, the sides, and the bottom. There are working slit front pockets. The leather is soft (but I've felt softer). The jacket is thinner than my brown Levi's jacket, but this is good for Miami weather.

My favorite part of this jacket has to be the quilting detail. I don't know why but it didn't stand out to me in the pictures online. I was also pleased with the fit (other than the sleeve length - but it's easily fixable with folding the sleeves up a bit). I'm like 90% sure I'm going to keep the jacket unless I find something at the same price point or cheaper that really stands out to me in the next few days. The other jacket that I had been eyeing is the Zara Leather Jacket with Zips but it's $250 and I've never seen it on sale. Also, it's not available in XS online right now. If it were, I would consider trying it because of the free shipping and free returns, but I'd be afraid that I'd like it and want to keep it, lol!

Forever 21 30% off all Jewelry & Cosmetics

Forever 21 is having another 30% off all jewelry sale! Prices are as marked. I can't even believe it! I'm personally going to refrain from this sale in order to save up for Christmas gifts for my family, but there is some really great (and cheap!) stuff to be found this time around.

The Alex & Chloe jewelry for Forever 21 was just launched YESTERDAY and now its on sale! If you like edgy pieces (lots of black, gunmetal, spikes and crosses) then you will LOVE getting a great deal on pieces that usually go for around $75 each. (see Alex and Chloe's regular website)

Navy & Chartreuse

I put considerably more thought and effort into what I'm wearing when I'm studying at the library as opposed to studying in the confines of my apartment. I think the necklace really makes this outfit. I picked it up during a Forever 21 20 or 30% off all jewelry sale (which never happens). I was trying to get some more color into my jewelry, and I think this yellow-y/green color did the trick. I can't wait to wear it with some burnt oranges and reds. And I think it will look great with bright purple. Actually, I really can't think of a color that it wouldn't go with!
Cardigan: Target
Tank: Old Navy
Jeans: Abercrombie
Shoes: Loft
Necklace: Forever 21
(side note: you might notice I haven't worn bracelets in a ton of my most recent outfit posts - that is because since finals started I've been using my computer to study in the library, and the clanking of my bracelets against the metal keyboard is not only distracting to myself, but probably rude considering other people are trying to study. I can't wait to put them back on! I feel naked)

studying casual & suprise

I just love surprises, don't you?? I showed up at school today and BF presented me with a gift for my birthday and christmas! (albeit, my birthday is on the 28th and christmas is on the 25th, he was quite early, but whatever) I mentioned to him only once that I had been eyeing several Michael Kors watches and also mentioned that a few were on sale and he remembered! Shows he was listening to me :) And you know I love a good deal so I'm glad BF got a good deal on this watch too. I'm so happy and can't wait to wear my new watch, I just have to get a few links taken out and we're good to go.

Forever 21 In-store Finds

I decided to kill an hour after my exam today by returning this horridly-fitting jacket to Forever 21 before I wasn't allowed to return it any more. Forever 21 has one of the worst exchange/return policies I've ever seen, but they just keep sucking money out of me! They had, in my opinion, an excellent selection of outerwear and sweater options today. I brought home 3 things but could have at least brought home 5, and there was another jacket I am completely enamored with that they didn't have in store in size Small that I might have to order online.. But then if I order it, it was only like 28 bucks so I need to spend another 22 to get the free shipping! UGH the perpetual cycle of Forever 21! I order online, I don't like something so I go in-store to return it, knowing that I can only get store credit, I find too many things that I like so I end up using my credit plus spending more money, and it all starts all over again! Somebody stop me! (get "The Mask" reference there? lol). But I digress..

Here is what I wore: (left: almost wore; right, did wear)
Fur Vest: J.Lo by Kohls
Leather Jacket: Levi's
Tee: Pac Sun
Jeans: Forever 21
Boots: Bakers
Orange Horn Necklace: Forever 21
Heart Necklace: David Yurman

I don't know about you but when I go shopping I tend to gravitate towards things that go well with what I'm already wearing. Forever 21 had some really cute things that I ended up not getting, most likely because I couldn't envision them being worn with this outfit. I'll show you what I did get, and I'll post some of the things that I really liked but didn't get in case anyone is interested in ordering online.
Left: Forever 21 Draped Open Vest, Small (it has pockets!)
Right: Forever 21 Belted Knit Cable Cardigan, Small (yeah, I kind of look pregnant here but I liked the colors and it is versatile in that it can be worn open as well)

Anyway, in the last few weeks I've tried on probably 6 different faux leather jackets from F21 and there were problems with all of them. Some didn't fit, some looked bad, some the style looked good but the material felt and looked like a rain coat, etc. However, I finally made a purchase today:

This jacket felt very soft, had a great style (IMO), and I loved the buttery cream color. I cannot find it anywhere online, but the label is "Daisy" - it doesn't say anything about Forever 21 inside except on the paper price tag. The tag says "style2sam@hotmail.com" which makes me think maybe email this person? Also, the # from the barcode is 11408802032 if that helps! I will say that this was the most expensive thing I've ever bought from F21 EVER at 37.50, but I do love it and can't wait to wear it!

As far as fit goes, the sleeves were about a half inch to an inch too long, and the elbow pads (seen bottom right picture) fell about a half inch off my actual elbow. The jacket is light weight (perfect for Miami but maybe not the best for warmth). When zippered up, the jacket fits me well in the waist with only a little bit of room to layer a light sweater underneath.

OK - I also wanted to show you a few things that I really loved in-store!

This jacket just looked so Chanel-esque to me, I just had to try it on. But with the sequins on it I just couldn't see myself wearing it for anything other than a night-time party, so I didn't purchase it. The sleeves on the model show as bracelet length but on me (5'3") the sleeves hit right at my wrist.

Next, this jacket reminded me of my Tibi jacket, but in Yellow (the one that I passed up a while ago). It was so cute but they didn't have it in size Small in-store.

Finally, as I was taking pictures Wednesday lay down in the sun and I thought she just looked too adorable :)

Enjoy the upcoming weekend!

Quest for Leather Jacket & Exams

I'm in the middle of studying for exams for the next 2 weeks. Law school really likes to drag exams out by spacing them out, which can be a good thing so you have enough time to study in between each exam, but let's face it - I'm like 4 months from being out of here and my brain is OVER IT (completely mush and I'm only on my 2nd exam tomorrow). So anyway, despite me being over exams already I've been wearing disgusting sweats and t-shirts every day so I'm not blog-worthy.

But for the time being, I decided to try this ASOS Leather Biker Jacket in Black. It should be here December 9 (just enough time for me to try it on before I head to CT for a month!) I've been eyeing it for a while now because it is only 181 dollars, and with ASOS's frequent sales it is one of the most affordable leather jackets I've seen.

Leather Jackets by Asos at ShopStyle
I used code RMNASOS20 today for 20% off full priced ASOS brand items, so the total came to $145. (I was actually eyeing this jacket a few days ago and had it in my cart when ASOS was having a 25% off ASOS sale - so I'm a little peeved I didn't save an extra 9 bucks).

This season I already bought a brown leather jacket and I love it, but I'm wanting a black one because I think black goes with everything, and I tend to be more of a black-wearing person than a brown-wearing person. I'm hoping that 1) the jacket has more fitted sleeves, both by my shoulders and through my bicep, and is more tapered at my wrist 2) that the sleeves are not an awkward length 3) that the waist of the jacket will fit semi-tight when the jacket zips up 4) that the jacket will not be "cropped" length 5) that the quality is good and the leather is soft.

With free shipping and returns, I'm willing to take the risk on this investment more so than through another retailer without the free shipping. I really hope it works out and will let you know about it when it arrives!

Pink Green Leopard

Two days before Thanksgiving and it's still 80+ outside. While I'm sure all over the country people are wearing camel, burgundy, forrest green, and rust, I'm here wearing hot pink and neon green to match the tropical weather. You might be jealous of me and the weather, but let me say I am definitely jealous of people in the north east this week with their 50-60 degree weather!

pastel & neon

Finals start for me on December 1, with Thanksgiving week/weekend serving as "reading week." I've always been bitter about this, because it makes us choose between studying or taking time off to spend Thanksgiving with friends and family. My 1L year I chose studying, and it paid off, but last year my parents came to me for Thanksgiving and cooked in my apartment and this year they are doing the same. Having my parents arcound is both a blessing and burden because they understand that I need to study and can't spend too much time with them, but I personally feel guilty if I don't spend time with them despite their assurances that they understand my need to study. Anyway, I have a paper due the 28th, my first exam December 1, 2nd exam the 7th, and last exam the 12th. I'm happy everything is spaced out decently well, but December 13th can't come soon enough (the day I fly home). I'm looking forward to winter, snow, skiing, and not having anything pressing to do for 4 whole weeks.

And now for something completely unrelated, today I went the pastel route with my outfit.
Blouse: H&M
Tank: H&M
Jeans: Abercrombie
Shoes: DV by Dolce Vita

And this weekend my outfit was pretty neon: (I only snapped this picture before I went out, and I debated whether to put it on the blog but I've never worn this shirt and figured it was something different)

rockstar

You ever have those outfits that just make you feel great? Today's outfit might be a little plain to some, but I sure felt put together and fabulous all day. I'm wearing two of my newest jewelry purchases from Forever 21 - a gunmetal curb chain long necklace and a gunmetal pyramid stretch bracelet. Both were purchased during the recent sale on jewelry (which NEVER happens, so I went a little crazy and got like 7 pieces of jewelry haha). I really felt sort of "rocker-chic" with these gunmetal pieces and my leopard shoes. If only I had a black leather jacket, that would have been the icing on the cake for sure. But the blazer was an OK stand in, and took the outfit from grunge to cute.

Blazer: H&M, 2
Tee: Pac Sun, S
Jeans: Abercrombie, 00R
Shoes: Wanted
Necklace: Forever 21
Bracelets: Movado, John Hardy, Fossil, Forever 21
I like the necklace because it really has a substantial weight to it, and it's super shiny!
This pyramid bracelet is very on-trend, and it only cost approximately 3 bucks!
I have no problem spending money on trends, as long as it's not too much money! Forever 21 often fits the bill and I know going into my purchase that the items I buy will either not last an entire season or will go out of style sooner rather than later :)

A question for anyone skilled in photography - does anyone know why my pictures are showing up clear in photoshop but once I put them into blogger they come out grainy/blurry? I have no clue what's going on! Thanks in advance
