ASOS leather jacket review

I got my ASOS Leather Biker Jacket today. I had high expectations of what I wanted in the garment, but I wasn't sure if they were unrealistic for ASOS (or anywhere, actually). Surprisingly, and to my delight, this jacket met several of my expectations and included some features that I hadn't considered but made the jacket more interesting visually and wearable.

The measurements for a Size 2 are as follows (measured laying flat):
Shoulder width: 14 inches
Length, shoulder to hem: 20 inches
Sleeve length: 24 inches
Armpit to Armpit: 17 inches
Bottom width: 16 inches
The Outer is 100% leather, the Lining is 100% cotton with 100% polyester lining in the sleeves.
The original price is $181 and I got it on sale for 20% off. I stupidly forgot to order it through a referral site like ebates/mrrebates/bigcrumbs so I could have saved even more money (approx 5 dollars).

The shoulders are slightly structured and lightly padded (really lightly padded). The sleeves are tapered and fitted at the wrist which I like. The sleeves run about an inch too long on me, and would probably be costly to get tailored. However, the sleeves have this great kind of wrap-around zipper (see a better picture below) which makes folding the sleeves up easy, and they actually stay put!. The sleeves could be more fitted around my biceps, but maybe I just have thin arms lol. The cropped length is good for petites. The zippers are silver-tone gunmetal. There is quilting at the shoulders, the sides, and the bottom. There are working slit front pockets. The leather is soft (but I've felt softer). The jacket is thinner than my brown Levi's jacket, but this is good for Miami weather.

My favorite part of this jacket has to be the quilting detail. I don't know why but it didn't stand out to me in the pictures online. I was also pleased with the fit (other than the sleeve length - but it's easily fixable with folding the sleeves up a bit). I'm like 90% sure I'm going to keep the jacket unless I find something at the same price point or cheaper that really stands out to me in the next few days. The other jacket that I had been eyeing is the Zara Leather Jacket with Zips but it's $250 and I've never seen it on sale. Also, it's not available in XS online right now. If it were, I would consider trying it because of the free shipping and free returns, but I'd be afraid that I'd like it and want to keep it, lol!

  1. Is the jacket true to size? I am skinny and wear US size 4 in dresses and most jackets so I was thinking of getting a 4 in the jacket. A 2 seems to be loose on you.

  2. It is true to size. I wear a 0 or 00 in most clothes and this is a US 2. The jacket also now comes in petite sizes if you happen to be on the shorter side.

  3. Yay, a size 4 was finally in stock, but in petites! I don't usually wear petite sizes but I'm 5'4", 113 lbs so hopefully I will be fine!

  4. Michelleanai, can you please follow up on how the fit is? I love this jacket, and typically I wear a size 4. I'm 5'4", 120lbs. Not sure if a petite size would fit me correctly, but the regular size 4 is still sold out.

  6. How do you think it compares to the leather (real leather) jackets at Zara?

  7. I just hate fake leather soooooo much but if I'm gonna pull the trigger on this exact jacket you reviewed (!) I want to make sure it's legit.

  8. I personally think the Zara jackets fit better in the arms (tighter fit). It might be worth it if you are from the US to buy both because ASOS and Zara have free shipping. I know if I had waited longer I would have rather purchased a Zara jacket over this one, now seeing that I like the fit better.

  10. The ASOS leather is more durable and scratch resistant. I ordered the Zara jacket that is in stores now - the black one with the elbow pad/ruching at the elbows - and mine arrived with some scratches in the leather so I returned it. The leather is softer in the Zara jacket. It will depend on how you plan to treat the jacket and how soft you want the leather to be. I know I couldn't properly care for the Zara one.

  13. Hi. I ordered the non Petite version of this from Asos in April this year. I have only just started wearing the jacket. It is really nice. Fits well. Sleeve length perfect for me. I am 5'11" and a size 12 and ordered a size 12. Due to my height, I would prefer slightly longer in the body, but this does not put me off the jacket at all. I thought it seemed like a well made jacket. Black cotton lining. Feels quite sturdy when on. So warm in the cold weather too. HOWEVER, after wearing it only a few times, under the arm seam stitching has all come apart. I have complained and Asos have asked me to return it for inspection and hopefully a refund. I think I will be ordering the same jacket again however, as it took a long time to find the perfect fit leather jacket and this seemed to be the one. I am so disappointed that the stitching has come undone. I wanted this jacket to last me for years and years. And as I look after my things, I thought it would do. It cost me £100. But now they are reduced to £75. Will have to wait and see the outcome.

  15. Hi :) I have a question about your asos leather jacket. I am also petite and I am looking at this particular jacket. You said you ordered a size 2. Was it a regular 2 or a petite 2? Also, what are your measurements, if you don't mind me asking? I am a 00 petite and my measurements are 32-24-34. I just want to know what size to order. The measurements on their size chart are so strange and I don't know if they are accurate.

  16. Great review, there are many places that offer customization on leather jackets for a small fee, many petite sizes available or custom sizes.
