house of blues

I busted out my first Theory blazer for my post today. Picked it up from Marshalls 5 summers ago for 100 dollars, which at the time seemed pricy, but now I realize it was an amazing deal since this baby cost about 400 originally. Not even sleeve alterations needed! I LOVE.
I am counting down the days until I move (to my unknown apartment). Anyone have any good moving tips? What do you normally pack first?

first target order review

My Target order finally arrived! However about 3 days after placing this order the Versie patent pumps were restocked in my size, so I HAD to get them, so now I'm waiting on that order also. Here we go -
1. Target Merona Teal Marlis Suede Wedge (buy here)
Fit: True to size - slightly tight in the toe box but I attribute that to having bunions from years of dance and sports :( . Fit is very similar to my Nine west grey suede flats that fit AMAZINGly after one wear.
Likes: COLOR - I have nothing like this. The color in the pictures is true to what it looks like in person. The shoe also comes in several other colors including red and mustard yellow. If these shoes end up wearing well I will definitely be purchasing a few other colors to broaden my flats collection.
Dislikes: the heel already looks a little worn, like the fabric was stretched too thin. I should have taken a picture. I think there were reviews about this online. But honestly, the entire rest of the shoe looks great and its only at the seam at the back. I'm probably wearing them tomorrow for a Color Brigade post so I will take pictures of the heel then.
Verdict: Keeping. Will see how they wear and hopefully will be purchasing at least 2 other colors soon.
2. Mossimo Supply Co. Burgandy Wauna Sandal - (Left shoe) (buy here)
Fit: True to size.
Likes: I like the simple style and the color is a nice brown with red undertones, I guess why the color is called "burgundy."
Dislikes: the pleather looks kind of plastic-y but its not supposed to be patent.
Verdict: still unsure. The reason I put two different shoes on is that the right shoe (Nine west) is the shoe I am thinking of throwing out. What do you guys think about the difference in style? Both are simple brown sandals. The right ones are getting kind of old, but I can easily keep wearing them and decide not to throw them out.
Do you like the left or right shoe better??
3. Mossimo Black Taupe Versie Platform Pump (buy here)
Fit: VERY tight in the toe box, making my feet feel like sausages. Heel gap in the back (see right picture). Pretty weird overall. I feel like the toe box would stretch out if I wore them but do I have the patience to wait for that to happen?
Likes: I ordered these because the Versie patent pumps were sold out in my size at the time. I did like that they were NOT patent because I really am not a huge fan of patent leather in the first place. I like the color in person.
Dislikes: I dont like that the heel is not the same color as the shoe. I don't like that the color of the shoe really does not match my skin tone. The fit isnt great.
Verdict: I will wait for the other Versie patent pumps to arrive before making my decision. It might be that they will both be going back if the fit is the same on the other ones. However, the Versie has such great reviews online that I feel like the fit out of the box shouldnt be what I judge the shoe for.

when BF leaves town, i SHOP!

I had to drive BF to the airport at 4:30 this morning (45 minutes away, ugh!), and I didn't go back to sleep when I came home so excuse any bags under my eyes, lol. In addition to cleaning out my closet and room for my upcoming move, I've been constantly looking at home decor blogs and websites trying to get ideas about what to purchase and how to decorate my new apartment (that I haven't yet signed a lease for or visited or know anything about yet haha). I know that based on the furniture I already have I am likely going to do a black and white theme, with the furniture being black and any accessories being white, with touches of one or two other colors as accents (turquoise and coral, anyone?!). Anyway, today I hit up Ross (they have a pretty great home decor section) and Target to bide some time in the afternoon, and I made out pretty well for myself! Here is what I wore: (this is the Gap cardigan that I was frustrated with in the last post)
Cardigan: Gap, S (currently available here)
T-shirt: Pac Sun, S $4.99 (similar)
Jeans: Forever 21, $10.50
Necklace: Etsy (here)
Bracelet: Etsy (here)
When I hit up Ross, there were sooo many things I wanted to get but I restrained myself! I got 3 basic t-shirts for about 5-6 bucks each with the intent that I will be throwing out some of these Pac Sun shirts that are starting to get old. I want to also throw out a pair of my brown sandals, but am waiting on my order from the Target 20% off sale to get here before I decide. I saw these brown Steve Madden sandals for only $11.99 so I got them. Depending on how my Target order goes these might be returned, or I might return the Target ones - we will see! But I'm going to have to restrain myself from wearing these ones for the next few days while waiting for that order. Get here already, Target!
Sandals: Steve Madden, $11.99 via Ross
Ross also had a TON of home decor items that I wanted to get, but again, considering I know nothing about my new apartment, I restrained myself from purchasing the entire store. I did get this quirky ceramic buddah head, though.
Statue: Ross, $5.99 (similar here) - might even be the same one
On my "to buy" list are other weird all white ceramic statues - they had some cool ones at Zgallerie that I loved but I know I can find them at a better discount.
At Target I picked up some concealer (for the recent revelation that I do, indeed, have dark circles under my eyes), and this Merona cardigan on clearance for only $9.98. I'm in love with the springy-green color - it was just calling for me to buy it since it went so well with my turquoise shirt!
Cardigan: Target, S (similar)
BF better come back soon, or I'm not going to have any money left!
What blogs do you like for home decorating ideas?

black out

You ever have one of those days where you wake up, you get completely dressed, and then you decide you hate your outfit? That happened to me today. I bought this cardigan from Gap that I've been meaning to wear and today I woke up and said TODAY is THE day! I got completely dressed, put it on, and then realized not only was I late to work but I looked pretty frumpy and terrible. I scrambled and threw off the cardigan, leaving me with this outfit - pretty boring, but sorta classy and practical for a law office.
Shirt: Ann Taylor, 00P (similar)
Necklace: Nordstrom Rack (similar
Jeans: Abercrombie, 00R
Shoes: Nine West (similar)
Bag: Longchamp (in black on black)
Sunglasses: Versace (similar)
Thankfully, I keep several blazers in my car JUST for emergencies like this haha! I wore a grey one all day at work, but didn't take pictures with it. In other news - my outfit kind of matched my day because we had a random blackout! Yep, all the power went out in my entire building, and apparently in the whole grid surrounding the building. I did get to leave work early which was nice, but with law offices it's all about billable hours, so leaving early just means I don't get paid as much (sad face). Oh well!

the 1 year rule

I've been doing a lot of "spring cleaning" recently in preparation for moving into a new place August 1st. This, of course, includes cleaning out my closet and deciding what to keep and what to give away or throw out. I have an ever-increasing pile of clothes and shoes forming in my room - it really is disgusting that I have so many clothes. Many of them still have the tags on! One rule to live by is if you haven't worn it in a year or more to get rid of it. Knowing that I should stick to this rule made me pull out a shirt I haven't worn in more than a year today and wear it just because it hasn't seen any love.
Shirt: Banana Republic, XS
Cardigan: Banana Republic, XXSP (similar w/ detail)
Jeans: Forever 21, 24x29
Belt: Ann Taylor Factory, XS (similar here - comes in XXS!)
Necklace: Lord & Taylor (here
Reasons why I didn't wear this shirt for over a year:
1. the shape - it is a "trapeze" style, which was in style, and is probably still in style, but it doesn't look right on me. On me it looks baggy and doesn't help my already skinny frame.
2. the color - it is hard to match with anything else because it is not quite red and not quite pink. The collar is also not quite grey, lol.
3. the length - generally too long for work, too short to be a dress, it falls in the awkward in-between.
Reasons why I didn't throw/give it away during the spring cleaning:
1. the shape can easily be fixed with a belt - as I tried to do above
2. although the colors are hard to match, I really have too much grey, black, and white in my wardrobe and having an interesting pinky/red is a good addition to my color palate.
3. having recently seen Easy Petite Looks' blog post about long tanks being appropriate for the office, I felt I could make this work for my super casual office also.
Necklace: Lord & Taylor (here)
I've fallen into a sort of tradition with my mom that every year for my birthday we go shopping together at Lord & Taylor and pick out some piece of jewelry from the fine jewelry section for me as a gift. It started because I have THE WORST BIRTHDAY IN THE WORLD. Yes, I said it. Can you guess when it is? I'll tell you - right after Christmas and right before New Years. There are several reasons this is the Worst Birthday In The World - 1) no friends can ever celebrate on the actual day or really even near the actual day because they are with their own families, 2) family (and friends) will try to GIP you and only get you one gift for both christmas and my birthday, and 3) I really can only think of those two things.
Anyway, all this birthday talk got me sidetracked from what I wanted to say - is that right after christmas stores have AMAZING sales on really high quality jewelry - we're talking 80% or more off. I was able to get this necklace for around 150 bucks, it was originally about 500 or 600 (550 according to the link) if I remember correctly. I love sales and good deals and wanted to share with you that patience can be a great virtue when it comes to waiting - because although I may not have gotten this necklace exactly on my birthday, it felt really good for me to get it 1 day later and to get it for a fraction of the price someone else likely did.

black on pink

One of the things I'm working on as a new-ish blogger is making my pictures look less blurry/grainy. Close-up shots always come out 100% better for me than any of the shots of my outfits. This is whether I use flash or use natural light. I'm guessing it just boils down to the quality of the lense. A new camera might be on my "want" list for x-mas, bdays, etc soon.
Shirt: Express, XXS (similar minus the buttons)
Skirt: Bebe, 0 (old!)
Cardigan: Loft, XXS (similar here - and on sale!)
Belt: from Ann Taylor skirt
Necklace: Tiffany (here)
Bracelets: Leila Rose (looks a lot like this from a vintage shop) & unknown gold
Bag: Longchamp (here in black on black)
Necklace: Tiffany
Thanks for reading!

summer layers

Even though its 90+ outside every day here, inside it is air conditioned. Sometimes the rapid change in temperature messes with me, and I really need a jacket, even if it is just for a few minutes. One thing I learned growing up was to always have a jacket/sweater/cover up with me at all times in case I got cold. Here is what I wore out to brunch with BF this weekend. We ate outside so I wanted to dress lightly, but I wasn't sure what we were doing afterward, so I brought along a trusty cardigan.
Dress: Urban Outfitters, XS
Headband: Forever 21
Belt: Forever 21, XS/S (in brown here)
Necklaces: David Yurman (here) and Bon Ton
Cardigan: Ann Taylor (similar here)
I'm always cold at the office too - but even walking outside for 5 minutes (to and from work or during lunch) can be unbearable with a blazer or sweater on. Especially in the summer, I love to wear almost sheer blouses and use a sweater to cover them up during the day to make them more office appropriate (and to keep me warm in the freezing air conditioning). Did I mention we all have space heaters at our desks??
Blouse: Bebe, XXS
Cardigan: Banana Republic Factory, XXSP
T-shirt: Pac Sun, S
Necklace: Kendra Scott via Gilt (different color here)
Jeans: Abercrombie, 00R
Shoes: Nine West
You can't really tell, but my t-shirt was purple - I was trying out a semi-monochromatic thing.
Bracelets: unknown, unfortunately!

weekend white shorts & creepy ceramic hand

This weekend has been pretty good so far. BF and I went out to eat at Shorty's BBQ last night - LOVE IT. Here is what I wore - my take on the neon and neutral trend (although I have MUCH more neon clothes in my closet circa my college days, lol).
Top: Banana Republic, XS
Shorts: Forever 21, 24
Shoes: Nine West (similar)
Necklace: old
Bracelets: Amrita Singh and J. Crew (I might add that they are huge)
Bag: Hobo International
Bracelets: J.Crew (cream), Amrita Singh (gold)
Necklace: old

Today BF and I went to Guitar Center (aka his favorite place and my least favorite place) so I snuck away to Joanne Fabrics to see what was over there. I usually just browse while he's looking at guitars and never find anything but today I found THIS:
It was 8.99 and although I am pretty sure I could have found something similar for a cheaper price, it was there right in front of me and calling for me to buy it! I wanted something like this for months, something to showcase my rings and some of my bracelets so I could actually SEE what I own. Seeing what you own is important because if you don't see if you won't wear it - I know this from experience!
Anyway, and here is what I wore on this shopping adventure:
Top: Guess, XS
Shorts: Forever 21, 24
Aviators: Forever 21
Necklaces: David Yurman heart (here) and Bon Ton circle
I love the color of this shirt - and cobalt is so IN right now. I also love the lace-like detail on the shirt, it makes it breezy and breathable for summer while adding some detail to an otherwise plain tube top.

mustard scarf in the summer

Did I mention it is freezing in my office? Perfect since I have a ton of winter clothes that rarely get any use since my college days up "north." Today it was probably 95 degrees outside and I decided to wear a scarf. I'm sure I got some weird looks, but since I spend 80% of my day freezing I might as well be comfortable!
Scarf: BCBG (similar)
Cardigan: J. Crew outlet, XS
Jeans: Forever 21, 24x29
Belt: from Ann Taylor skirt
Sunglasses: Versace, gift
Shoes: Payless
Earrings: Tiffany
Bag: Longchamp, (in red here
You can special order from the longchamp website and customize your colors! I did it for my first bag - worth it!
just LOOK at that color! I LOVE.

June 15, 2011

gray to match the sky

I'm only outside for a few minutes every day during the week - walking to my car in the morning, walking into my office before work, leaving my office and walking to my car, and walking back into my apartment building after work. I really look forward to those few minutes because living in Miami it is always sunny - or so I thought. Apparently we have entered hurricane season, meaning pretty much every day it rains. And as it just so happens, this entire week has been gloomy for the few minutes I've been outside. Today I dressed the part and matched the dreary sky. YAWN. where is the summer sun???
Top: Ann Taylor Factory, 0
Cardigan: Banana Republic, XS
Pants: Banana Republic, 00P
Belt: Ann Taylor Factory, XS
Shoes: Nine West
Necklace: Tiffany
Bag: Longchamp le pliage
Bracelet: John Hardy
Today was also the first time I braved the outdoors to try taking photos. The lighting was pretty good, not too bright but not too dim either - neither of the parking garage pics were used with flash. Maybe I'll be doing this outside thing more often - the pics def look better, even if I am surrounded by concrete.

glorified fanny pack & gangsta shoes

This weekend I was in the Happiest Place on Earth - yes, Disney World. BF and I stayed with his best friend from high school so I tried to pack lightly to not take up a ton of space in his apartment. I also busted out some items for practicality purposes that I rarely use. Here is what I wore when we went to listen to BF's friend play guitar at a bar the first night:
Dress: Lucca Couture via Hautelook, S
Cardigan: Loft, XXS
Belt: Forever 21, XS/S
Necklace: Etsy
Shoes: Tj Maxx
I packed sneakers to try to save my feet since I knew we were going to be doing a LOT of walking. I also backed my glorified fanny pack aka cross-body bag so I wouldn't have to cart around a big purse, and since it wouldn't fall off my body in crowds and on super sweet rides (the rides, not so sweet). Without sounding like a meanie, Disney was not what I remembered it as. Basically, I LOVE roller coasters and the Magic Kingdom was completely lacking in that department. We will definitely be hitting up Universal Studios for the better coasters next time. On to the glorified fanny pack and interesting shoes:
Bag: Dooney & Bourke crossbody
Shoes: Reebok high tops, with pumps in case you didnt notice.
This is the first time I used this bag. It was definitely functional, but I personally think cross body's look dumb a lot of the time. Another reason I never wore this bag before is because of the leather. I'm not used to being careful with my purses, and as a result after only wearing this bag for like 8 hours it has a little "Z" mark on the front left side (check it out above). This pisses me off. Thankfully I got the bag as a gift so I dont feel as angry as I would have if I paid for it myself, but MEH. GRRR I can't believe I made a mark the first time I even wore it.
The shoes were an impulse buy from TJ Maxx last year. I thought I looked so gangsta wearing them. Every time I wear them though I get compliments so I guess I don't look THAT stupid, lol.

June 7, 2011

turquoise & purple

Today I went out to lunch for my boss's birthday at Michael's Genuine in the Design District. I'd never ventured into the design district before, and aside from the food being AWESOME, I definitely want to head back over there sometime soon to check out the sweet furniture and decor stores that line every street. I had an amazing short rib panini with tomato chutney, some sort of cheese, and greens. We all shared an appetizer of some type of cheese that was definitely infused with some sort of oil to make it creamy and not cheese-like at all. Anyway, on to my outfit.
Shirt: Polo, XS
Cardigan: Loft, XXSP
Jeans: Gap Jegging, 25
Necklace: Amrita Singh
Bracelets: John Hardy & necklace from Italy worn as a bracelet
Shoes: Nine West
I pretty much love turquoise.
PS - color brigade post!

summer neutral

I think my favorite color right now is light grey. In the winter, wearing light grey can actually brighten up an outfit even though its a neighbor of black. In the summer, you can pair light grey with other colors for a more bright look too. Today I paired my go-to grey cardigan with my new favorite Ann Taylor factory shell in hues of green, blue, grey, and taupe.
Cardigan: BR, XXSP
Shell: Ann Taylor Factory, XSP
Jeans: Forever 21, 24x29
Belt: Forever 21, XS/S
Necklace: India
Earrings: Tiffany
Bracelets: John Hardy and Tiffany intertwined
Watch: Fossil
Jeans: Forever 21 (I love this length! No alterations needed!)
Shoes: Nine West Outlet
Necklace: India - light green/blue
Bracelets: intertwined, Johny Hardy and Tiffany
Watch: Fossil

something new...

I got these flats from DSW and wore them for the first time today. I love that they are woven, I have nothing like this in my wardrobe. I also love the front buckle area. I was surprised that Liz Claiborne made cute shoes - these were definitely a diamond in the rough in the DSW clearance section.

Shoes: DSW, On clearance for $44.95, plus 40% off = $ 26.97
Top: Kmart (yes.), XS, $4.99
Cardigan: Loft, XXS, $14
Jeans: Gap jegging, 25, $20

breakin' the rules

Today I wore two patterns together... O M G.
Button up: Hollister, XS
Cardigan: H&M, XS
Jeans: Forever 21, 24 x 29
Bracelet: John Hardy, gift from bf
Necklaces: Circle - Bon Ton, Pendant - India, gift
I also wore shoes that are in my "throw out or give away" pile - not loving the square-ish toe, but the not so fashion conscious bf told me to wear them today, so I did.
Shoes: Nine West
