Black & White

*EDIT* - Ann Taylor extended their extra 60% off sale and I wanted to point out that this dress reviewed here is now only $32 after the discount! Plus, take an extra 10% off your order (or 15% with Ann Taylor card) with various codes sent out through the mail and email - you can use it more than once through July 18, so I'm not afraid to give my code out here: 10000010795. Let's just say I went a bit crazy during the sale... How can I not when the prices are as good as, if not better than, Forever 21??!? Enjoy.

Wore this to work this past Friday at the office and to a deposition. I'm not comfortable enough yet to wear this white blazer to court (I'm crazy, I know, but I'd rather be safe than sorry until I'm 100% comfortable), even though I've seen many other young attorneys dressing way less conservatively in terms of color. I obviously love clothes, but I love my reputation more, and I honestly don't know what some attorneys are thinking by wearing neon (yes, I'm not exaggerating, neon) blazers and dresses to court! I'm curious for any other lawyers who read this blog, is this just a Miami thing or have you seen other women wearing neon to court in your state? Do you have any "boundaries" that you set for yourself in your own workplace/occupation, in terms of clothing choices?

  1. There is absolutely nothing radical or improper about white in the summer. Before air conditioning it was standard and is still proper for a dinner jacket. White jackets have become rare probably because they are so difficult to keep clean, especially around the cuffs when you work around lots of pencil. OTOH don't wear anything you aren't completely comfortable in to court, you don't need any additional sources of distraction or stress.

  2. Not a lawyer, but I work with them, and you look nicer than half the attorneys I see every day. That is a beautiful blazer, I can't imagine any Court being offended by it, and I live in a conservative state.

  3. I think you look chic and perfectly appropriate for court. On a normal day, I work in a business cas to cas environment but there are some things I just won't do, like too much neon, exposed shoulders or shorts. I guess they are my personal rules?

  4. I know I'm crazy to think white is stretching the rules at all. I hope that soon I'll be more comfortable and will not be afraid to wear this to court

  5. You are definitely right about keeping white clean - I've had to dry clean this jacket more than any of my others, but I just love it so I don't mind paying to clean it! Hopefully I'll get over my minor fear of white in the courtroom soon and I'll be able to wear this to court as well as the office

  6. Your shyness about sticking out is probably very prudent considering that you are such a young attorney. Oh, and for what it's worth, one of the partners in my office wore a white SUIT to court today. She looked fabulous, too.

  7. As a fellow young attorney, I use what the more experienced attorneys in my firm wear to court as my guidelines, regardless of what everyone else is wearing. For me, that would definitely mean not wearing a white blazer or skirt.

That said, it's a lovely blazer and I would not hesitate to wear it to the office or a client meeting.

And no offense, but when I think of Miami, I think of loud clothing (see your Ross experience below!). Neon and such hasn't made it anywhere near the courts in my state.

  8. Gorgeous dress :) I also love the texture of this blazer! You should go for whatever you like, it's fun exploring fashion. I used to constrain myself but now I am more open with my fashion choices. You look great, regardless!

Lov your outfit and especially your blazer! Great to go to work with!

I also have a fashion blog for petites, but in France! In france, there is no special clothes for small women, contrary to the US. So it's very difficult to get dressed!
