Winter White

I wore this outfit a few weekends ago to run some errands. I also wore it to lunch at Scotty's Landing - one of my favorite places to eat in Miami. The food is really good, reasonably priced (compared to some other waterfront restaurants down the street, ahem.), and of course the views of the water are awesome. I thought the restaurant was being torn down (in fact, I thought it already was torn down), but it wasn't, and now I'm not sure if that's happening anymore. But, just in case it's happening, you should definitely go eat there now before it's too late!
A note about the ring near the bottom of the photo - I am obsessed with this ring by David Yurman and it's been on my wish list for a long time. However, it's f'in' expensive! Over Christmas I stumbled on this Macy's ring which is totally inspired by the DY one, and I just had to get it. It's not so close to the original as to be a faux DY piece, it's just got a similar wrap style enough to be "inspired" by DY, so I'm ok with it. Anyway, I couldn't find it online but maybe you can find it at your local store if you like it.

Tweed on Tweed

It's been a long time since I last wore this dress. It was sitting in my "to take to the tailor" pile for months and months because the hem started to unravel. This is just a typical outfit I would wear to court on a non-trial day.
Played around with my lens last weekend and snapped this shot of Wednesday for Instagram

Casual Friday

I wore this outfit on a recent Friday where I didn't have to go to court. I got this necklace for Christmas and have been wearing it on the weekends, but I wanted to try it in a work outfit. I thought the bright yellow complimented the dark green in the blazer. The closeup photo shoes a better example of the true color of the blazer. The only thing I'll say about the necklace is 2 strands have already broken, which resulted in tiny seed beads falling EVERYWHERE in my apartment. Not fun to pick up tiny beads, but fun to wear. A tradeoff.

Orange you glad I made a terrible pun?

I really hope this is the last time I use a pun in the title of a style post. I wore this on a weekend trip to Vizcaya Museum and Gardens in Miami. I've wanted to visit forever and finally found time this past weekend. It was BEAUTIFUL. The main house reminded me of the mansions in Newport, Rhode Island that I visited when I was a kid. The gardens reminded me of Versailles (but on a smaller scale). The view of Biscayne Bay was to die for. As we walked around the house and grounds I kept saying "I want to live here" -- one can dream, haha. I definitely recommend visiting the grounds if you're in Miami and are looking for something to do other than the beach.

Trial Ready

I was in a trial last week that's continuing into this week. This is one of the outfits I wore last week. I generally wear straight up suits to trial and keep it conservative with a few personal touches if I think it's appropriate. Here, I went with a turquoise shirt because ... why not? and I wore a new "edgy" necklace from Express that was a Christmas gift from my mom. I kept the rest of my jewelry simple with silver studs and a silver ring. Not too much time to post last week due to the trial but I took some outfit photos and plan to schedule posts to get them out! Wish me luck :)

Oh and in other news, I read "the beauty department" daily and a while ago I read an article that changed my hair life -- if you are using bobby pins, make sure to put the side with the teeth closest to your scalp as opposed to the smooth side. It helps the hair hold so much stronger. If this is something that was so obvious I apologize for wasting your time, haha, but I DIDN'T KNOW and it has been such a helpful tip!

Florida's Winter

My BF and I went to St. Augustine, Florida a few weeks ago for a little trip. St. Augustine is  apparently the oldest city in the U.S. We spent the day doing touristy stuff - we checked out all the cool/odd shops, stopped at the local fort, and had the chance to relax and enjoy some wine while people watching. It was pretty hot that weekend (80 degrees or so), and with all the walking planned I decided to wear shorts. A little PSA if you're planning to visit Florida in the winter: it's usually really hot! I think Miami has had like 2-3 days of "cold" weather so far this season, and I didn't even get to enjoy them because I was up North for the holidays!
St. Augustine highlights included: a store dedicated to cat oddities, too many beef jerky stores to count, a popcorn store, a shop that sold swords and knives, and of course the many delicious restaurants and bars. We hit up Dos Gatos for some cocktails, Scarlett's for a pre-dinner drink, and the Tini Martini Bar for an after dinner drink.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! I rang in the new year at a house party with friends, complete with a performance artist, burlesque dancers, and a fully stocked bar :) The host declared the party black tie, so I decided to bust out my favorite sequin cocktail dress for the occasion (I love being able to re-use dresses!) I pretty much wore the same outfit to my last black tie event in April. What did you do to welcome in the new year?
